In honour of Black History Month, this event will explore the stigma and current state of Black mental health in Canada, highlighting both best practices and the biases that shape clinical care. Through real-life examples, we鈥檒l examine how Black individuals navigating psychological concerns may experience dismissal, gaslighting, or misinterpretation of their symptoms鈥攐ften rooted in systemic and practitioner-level bias. We will also discuss how clinicians鈥� assumptions can influence diagnosis and treatment, particularly when lived experiences of racism are minimized or overlooked.
