Categories and criteria

Prize for Groups

Applicants should demonstrate how they have aimed to connect members of the broader society to the research and other work they have done at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. Activities described in applications should be linked to fields of study, or to areas of expertise, research and/or teaching carried out at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and its affiliated research centres.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible to apply, the group must be created and led by one or more current Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ undergraduate or graduate students and must include at least three students.  It is not necessary that all group members attend Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾.

  • Academic staff and faculty members may collaborate in group activities initiated by the students, but groups should be student-led on a day-to-day basis.

  • Please indicate in the application form whether the group receives any funds from sources that are either internal or external to Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ or  pays some of its members for part-time or full-time work related to the group activities.

  • Groups whose primary focus is either advocacy or charity work are not eligible to apply. For example, groups whose purpose is to raise money for patients suffering from heart problems would not be eligible to apply. However, groups whose primary role is to educate the same patients and others about the prevention, management or treatment of heart attacks would be eligible.

Prize for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows

Applicants should demonstrate how they have aimed to connect members of the broader society to the research and other work they have done at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. Activities described in applications should be linked to fields of study, or to areas of expertise, research and/or teaching carried out at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and its affiliated research centres.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible to apply, you must be registered as a current Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾â€¯graduate student or post-doctoral fellow and have completed at least one semester at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾.

  • The Prize recognizes individuals who are new to public engagement and working with the media – those who have started to engage with the public and/or media  within the past five years.

  • You may  not  apply if you are in your qualifying year.
    Ìý
  • All work included in the application, whether media work, direct public engagement, or work with stakeholders should be tied to sharing knowledge related to your fields of research and/or expertise.

Prize for Emerging ResearchersÌýand Professors

Applicants should demonstrate how they have aimed to connect members of the broader society to the research and other work they have done at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. Activities described in applications should be linked to fields of study, or to areas of expertise, research and/or teaching carried out at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and its affiliated research centres.

  • To be eligible to apply, you must have an appointment at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ as academic staff (tenured or non-tenured).ÌýÌý

  • All work included in the application, whether media work, direct public engagement, or work with stakeholders should be tied to sharing knowledge related to your fields of research and/or expertise.

  • It must beÌýno more than 15 years since you finished your doctorate or other highest degree awarded. Alternatively, for affiliate or adjunct faculty members,Ìýacademic associates, course or faculty lecturers or Professors of Practice, it must be no more than 15 years since you entered the work force or began to gain experience in your field.

  • Any career interruptions such as maternity or paternity leave, extended sick or disability leave, clinical training or family care can be excluded from the fifteen-year limit, but should be mentioned in an email to communications.prize [at] mcgill.ca.

Prize for Established Researchers and Professors

Applicants should demonstrate how they have aimed to connect members of the broader society to the research and other work they have done at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. Activities described in applications should be linked to fields of study, or to areas of expertise, research and/or teaching carried out at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and its affiliated research centres.

Eligibility

  • To be eligible to apply, you must have an appointment at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ as academic staff (tenured or non-tenured).

  • It must be at least 15 yearsÌýago that Ìýyou finished your doctorate or other highest degree awarded. Alternatively, for course or faculty lecturers, affiliate or adjunct faculty members, academic associates and Professors of Practice, it must be at least 15 yearsÌýsinceÌýyou entered the work force or began to gain experience in your field.

  • All work mentioned in the application, whether media work, direct public engagement, or work with stakeholders should be tied to sharing knowledge related to your fields of research and/or expertise.

  • If you are a course or faculty lecturer, an affiliate or adjunct faculty member, an academic associate or a Professor of Practice, a retired or emeritus/emerita faculty member, you may apply if you mention your affiliation with Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ in media and/or public engagement activities.
