Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

In accordance with Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾â€™s Statutes, an Advisory Committee to the President and Vice-Chancellor has been struck for the selection of the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

Advisory Process: Mandate & Key Stages

Mandate

The Advisory Committee’s mandate is to identify and consider qualified individuals for the position of Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. At the end of its deliberations, the Advisory Committee will make a recommendation to the Chair, who will transmit it to the President for consideration. The President is responsible for bringing the candidate recommendation to the Board for approval.

The Advisory Committee is responsible for defining the set of competencies for the position of Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, consistent with future leadership needs and the evolving environment of higher education, within Quebec, Canada, and internationally.

Key Stages of the Selection Process

Once the Advisory Committee is formed, its process involves several stages, generally focusing on the following steps:

  1. Committee orientation, consultations with the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ community and development of a position profile for the role
  2. Identifying and cultivating prospective candidates
  3. Reviewing and assessing prospective candidates
  4. Evaluating candidates against the criteria established in the position profile and selecting those for interview by the Committee
  5. Interviews, Committee deliberations and reference checking
  6. Formulating recommendations of top candidates for consideration by the President and submission of the recommendation to the Board of Governors
  7. Appointment of candidate to the role by the Board of Governors

Invitation for Feedback

The Advisory Committee invites members of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ community to submit confidential written feedback to inform the search for the next Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. In particular, the Committee welcomes input on the following:

  1. Opportunities, Challenges, and Priorities
    Your views on the internal and external opportunities, challenges, and priorities facing Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Dean over the next 5–10 years, as they relate to the search process.

  2. Role and Position Requirements
    Whether the priorities and position requirements described in the 2015 position profile adequately reflect the role and responsibilities of the Dean for the coming decade; and, if not, what changes should be considered.

  3. Candidate Qualities
    The required and desirable qualities that candidates should possess, including their:

    • Values

    • Leadership skills

    • Qualifications and experience
