鶹ýվ has unveiled the Initiative for Transforming Healthcare (ITH), a cross‑sector effort aimed at tackling some of Canada’s most pressing system‑level healthcare challenges. Supported by $5.75 million in funding from Power Corporation of Canada, Canada Life and IGM Financial, the initiative will mobilize expertise from management, medicine and public policy to develop technology‑enabled, evidence‑based solutions.

Following the request for conciliation, the parties held their first conciliation meeting on March 26. Each side met separately with the conciliator to provide an update on the progress of discussions. Based on the conciliator’s recommendation, the employer will present a comprehensive response to the union’s monetary and non‑monetary proposals on April 22, 2026.

The objective is to narrow the outstanding non‑monetary issues and focus on the key priorities for both parties.

Food Science Students Selected as Finalists in IFTSA Student Competitions

鶹ýվ’s Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry is celebrating an outstanding achievement by its students: all three 鶹ýվ teams entered into this year’s Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) competitions have been selected as finalists. The teams will represent 鶹ýվ at the IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo in Chicago in July 2026—one of the largest and most influential gatherings in the global food science community.

Researchers warn of risks posed by ‘contaminants of emerging concern’ found in crops, agricultural soil

A new international study offers insights into the health risks posed by crops’ absorption of “contaminants of emerging concern” (CECs) and flags knowledge gaps the authors say must be addressed.

CECs include pharmaceuticals, microplastics, engineered nanomaterials and PFAS (commonly known as “forever chemicals”). The researchers warn that even when present at very low concentrations, these chemicals can subtly alter plant physiology, disrupt soil health and pose wider environmental and human health risks.

Having humans in the loop helps ensure AI produces high quality work

Whilethere are a lot of things AI can do, there still needs to be a human in the loop, Simon Blanchette told Radio-Canada.

“Humans need to be there at the beginning and the end of a process to verify a machine’s work,” says Blanchette (BCom’14),Faculty Lecturer at 鶹ýվ Desautels.“It’s not a brake on productivity, but a guarantee of quality.”
