This office provides information on government aid, institutional loans, bursaries and awards, as well as counseling on budget and debt management.ÌýThe Faculty of Medicine's bursaries are awarded on the basis of financial need and are administered by the Scholarship and Student Aid Office.Ìý

Newly accepted students entering their first year of an undergraduate program may apply for Entrance Financial Aid via the Financial Aid Menu on . Applicants for university and faculty financial aid must first avail themselves of government and other sources of assistance for which they may be eligible.Ìý

Scholarship, bursary and prize values are based on funds available. Section 5.5.1 of the Health Sciences Calendar outlines the various scholarships, bursaries, prizes, medals and loan funds available to medical students.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Entrance Scholarships for MDCM Students

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences offers a number of Entrance Scholarships annually to newly admitted first-year MDCM (including joint program) students on the basis of overall achievement as evidenced in the admissions application. All admitted students are automatically considered for entrance scholarships. There is no form to complete. Scholarships are allocated at the discretion of the Faculty of Medicine and according to available funds.

Class of Medicine 1985 Entrance Scholarship (Application required)

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is pleased to announce the establishment of the Class of Medicine 1985 Entrance Scholarship, which will be awarded based on consideration of an applicant’s admissions file and the submission of an invited supplemental essay. Recipients will be selected by the Faculty’s Widening Participation Committee, whose mandate is to promote equity and diversity in the classroom.

To apply for the Class of Medicine 1985 Entrance Scholarship:

Write an essay (500 words,1 page single-spaced, in English or French) explaining to the selection committee how your personal history and experiences might promote equity in, and contribute to the diversity of, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences classrooms, and ultimately the health professions.

Submit the essay, along with a copy of your most recent resumé, by email to: admofficer.med [at] mcgill.ca with the subject line: Class of Medicine 1985 Entrance Scholarship

A recipient will be selected by the committee; the announcement can be expected in August.

Entrance Scholarships for Med-P Students

Important Entrance Scholarships Eligibility Update – Effective Fall 2026

Beginning Fall 2026, CEGEP students admitted to the BCL/JD (Law), Dent-P (Dentistry), or Med-P (Medicine) Qualifying year will no longer be eligible for centralized Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Entrance Scholarships offered to first-time university students, or for the Major Entrance Scholarships.

Students from low-to modest-income families admitted to the Med-P Qualifying year, can apply for need-based aid through: Financial Aid for Future Undergraduates.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾â€™s Scholarships and Student Aid Office offers a merit-based Entrance Scholarship Program and a need-based Entrance Bursary Program for all newly accepted, first-year, first-degree undergraduate students.ÌýÂé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ also offers Entrance Need-Based Financial aid to newly accepted Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences students. Award for Indigenous Undergraduate Students

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ OKÃ’N:RA UNDERGRADUATE AWARD for Indigenous students in full-time studies in any Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ undergraduate degree program, including Medicine (MDCM). An application is required, please view the requirements and deadlines here: Funding for Indigenous Undergraduate Students.

Awards for Black Undergraduate Students

These scholarships are awarded by the on the basis of financial need and good academic standing: Baylis Bursary, Cadet Foundation Bursary, Mabel and Allan Mackenzie Family Bursary, St. Sauveur Brotherhood Bursary.

External Award for Black Undergraduate Students

Need-based award created to support Black students entering their first year of medical school at select Canadian institutions.

External Scholarships

Many foundations and organizations offer scholarships to prospective or newly admitted medical students. Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾'s Scholarships and Student Aid Office has gathered some resources as a starting point, there is also the Health and Social Services Community Leadership Bursary and the .

Please note that students with American citizenship or permanent residency who are admitted to the MDCM program are not eligible for U.S. Direct Loan (Title IV) funding due to regulatory restrictions related to undergraduate medical education programs. For information on alternative funding options, please contact the Scholarships and Student Aid Office.
