Advancing Indigenous Knowledge and Education Initiative

TheÌýAdvancing Indigenous Knowledge and Education Initiative (AIKEI)Ìýaims to celebrate andÌýfacilitateÌýthe respectful inclusion of Indigenous knowledge across Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. The initiative engages members of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ community in meaningful and sustained connections with Indigenous perspectives, values, and worldviews.Ìý

Through two dedicated funding streams, the initiative supports:Ìý

  • Indigenous visitors and events thatÌýcenterÌýIndigenous voices and knowledges, andÌý

  • Indigenous students in accessing conferences, workshops, and learning opportunities that strengthen their academic and professional pathways.Ìý

This initiative reflects Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾â€™s commitments to Truth and Reconciliation and to supporting Indigenous students, communities, and knowledge systems.Ìý

Funding StreamsÌý

Stream A: Visitors / EventsÌý

For Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ facultyÌýandÌýstaffÌý

Stream A supports the costs of inviting Indigenous visitors or hosting events that promote Indigenous perspectives and engagement across the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ community.Ìý

Examples include:Ìý

  • Inviting Indigenous academics, artists, Elders, or cultural knowledge holdersÌý

  • Hosting workshops, talks, or events featuring Indigenous voicesÌý

  • Coordinating small orÌýmedium‑sizedÌýevents on campus or in the communityÌý

  • Should contribute to learning, dialogue, or capacity-building related to Indigenous histories, cultures, or contemporary issues.Ìý

  • These events can be organized at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ or in the community.ÌýÌýÌý

  • Event: up toÌý$3,500Ìý

Stream B providesÌýsupportingÌýthe costs of Indigenous undergraduate/graduateÌýstudents wishingÌýto attend conferencesÌýandÌýworkshops that enhance learning, research, and professional development.Ìý

  • Indigenous speaker series/panelsÌý

  • Indigenous Awareness Weeks (IAW) eventsÌý

  • Indigenous Youth ConferencesÌý

  • Indigenous Education ConferencesÌý

  • Indigenous youth/student-focused Workshops &SummitsÌý

  • Required association or membership fees related to registrationÌý

How to Apply

Applications must beÌýsubmittedÌýusing theÌýofficial application formsÌýand templatesÌýdeveloped by the Office of Indigenous Initiatives.Ìý

Please note:Ìý

  • Applicants may receive fundingÌýonce per academic yearÌý

  • Applications will not be considered for expenses incurred prior to approvalÌý
    (with limited exceptions for Stream B conference application fees)Ìý

Reporting & AccountabilityÌý

All successful applicantsÌýareÌý°ù±ð±ç³Ü¾±°ù±ð»åÌý³Ù´ÇÌý²õ³Ü²ú³¾¾±³ÙÌý²¹Ìý±è´Ç²õ³Ù‑a³¦³Ù¾±±¹¾±³Ù²âÌý°ù±ð±è´Ç°ù³ÙÌýwithinÌý45 daysÌýof the event or travel completion.Ìý

Reports must include:Ìý

  • A summary of activitiesÌý

  • A financial report of all revenues and expensesÌý

  • All receiptsÌýpertaining toÌýrevenues and expensesÌý

Any unused funds must be returned to theÌýAdvancing Indigenous Knowledge and Education Initiative (AIKEI).Ìý
