Meet 2023 Global Health Scholar Blake Linthwaite

Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Global Health Scholar Blake Linthwaite is a medical student working with Dr. Evan Wong of the Department of Surgery.

Blake Linthwaite is a medical student and a Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Global Health Scholar supported by the Dr. Margaret Siber Global Health Scholar Award. Blake will work with Dr. Evan Wong of the Department of Surgery.

"I will be traveling to Nunavik as part of Dr. Evan Wong's team at the Centre for Global Surgery. Our aim is to help implement a trauma registry, called AMBER, in order to better assess the epidemiology of traumatic injuries in the region. We also have studies underway to better understand the nature of surgical care in remote communities, and how to improve it.

I am excited to contribute, even a small part, to a team that is both committed to working with community partners and aiming for long-term, positive changes in healthcare for remote communities in Northern Canada."

Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
