Program Guidelines and Policies

In addition toÌýthe regulations of the Faculty of Arts, students in theÌýBachelor of Arts, Faculty Program in Population and Global Health (BA-PGH)Ìýmust adhere to the following program-specific guidelines and policies.Ìý

Experiential Learning Requirements (GPHL 303 & GPHL 401)Ìý

GPHL 303 (Community-Engaged Learning) and GPHL 401 (Experiential Learning) areÌýrequiredÌýcore components of the BA-PGH program. Due to the structured and placement-based nature of these courses:Ìý

  • Students must successfully complete both courses to progress in the program. These courses must be completed according to the program’s sequencing requirementsÌýÌý

Failure orÌýNon-CompletionÌý

Students who do not successfully complete GPHL 303 or GPHL 401 will be subject toÌýadditionalÌýprogram review: Guideline in Development

Study Abroad Training, Study Away, andÌýInter-University Transfer (IUT) EligibilityÌý

Due toÌýthe structured and cohort-based design of the BA-PGH program:Ìý

  • Students areÌýnot eligible for traditional exchange or independent study away programsÌýÌý

  • Students may be eligible to take courses at another institution through an Inter-University Transfer (IUT)Ìýoutside of the Fall-Winter academic year, given the structured design of the program and required courses. More information on Inter-University Transfer Courses can be foundÌýhere.Ìý

Study Abroad and Pre-Departure Training RequirementsÌý

While BA-PGH students are not eligible for traditional exchange programs, studentsÌýparticipatingÌýinÌýexperiential learningÌý(GPHL 303 and GPHL 401)ÌýorÌýotherÌýglobal health activitiesÌý(e.g., Global Health Scholars)ÌýmustÌýcomply withÌýÂé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾â€™sÌýStudy Abroad safety requirements, including pre-departure training.Ìý

BA-PGH students will follow theÌýStudy Abroad Pre-Departure Training requirementsÌý

For BA-PGH students, specifically, pre-departureÌýtraining will be coordinated throughÌýÂé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Global Health Programs (GHP)Ìýwhich has separate program-specific guidance and timelines from the standard Study Abroad processes.ÌýAll questions related to pre-departure training and requirements should be directed toÌýstudentaffairsghp.med [at] mcgill.caÌý

Credits Outside the Faculties of Arts and ScienceÌý

Given the interdisciplinary nature of the BA-PGH program, students areÌýpermittedÌýadditionalÌýflexibility in taking courses outside the Faculties of Arts and Science.Ìý

  • Students may complete up to aÌýmaximum of 30 credits outside the Faculties of Arts and ScienceÌýÌý

  • This includesÌýcomplementary and elective courses combinedÌýÌý

  • This exception reflects the program’s integration of courses offered by multiple facultiesÌý

Additional NotesÌý

Students are strongly encouraged to:Ìý

  • Plan their academic pathway carefully due to program sequencing requirementsÌý

  • Consult with the Student Affairs Officer before making decisions that mayÌýimpactÌýprogressionÌýÌý

  • Review both Faculty of Arts and BA-PGH program policies regularlyÌý
