Accessing home directory files on EMF

While accessing information please ensure you adhere to the Policy on the Responsible Use of Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Information Technology Resources, available on the Secretariat’s website.

Prior to accessing data, you must:

  • Ensure your workstation is up-to-date with security patches (i.e. running Windows Update), and
  • Ensure you have antivirus software installed and virus signatures are up to date.

.

Step 1: VPN

In order to access your files (outside the University), you must setup VPN (Virtual Private Network).

Go to the IT Knowledge Base article on Virtual Private Network (VPN), select your operating system and follow the setup instructions. Frequently asked questions and best practices are also available.

You will require administrative privileges on your workstation to setup VPN.

If you encounter problems setting up your VPN connection, please contact Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Central IT Service Desk.

After you have setup and established a connection with VPN, you are ready to access your files.

Do not save your username and password if you are sharing the computer.

Step 2: Mapping a drive to files on EMF

  1. In File Explorer, right click on 'This PC' and choose 'Map network drive…'
  2. Select a Drive letter which is not being used. (We recommend using a free drive letter between O and V.)
    - Leave the 'Reconnect at login' box unchecked if you are sharing the computer.
    - Enable check box for 'Connect using different credentials'.
  3. Path to map
In the Folder: enter the server path to your home directory. The path depends on which department you are registered in. Please see the following options:
