New award honours Professor Richard Donovan’s legacy

Students, colleagues, friends and family of the late Professor Richard Donovan have paid tribute to his legacy with the new Richard Donovan Graduating Prize in Case Excellence at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. Veteran MMICC judge George Attar (BCom’82) and BCom alumna Shonezi Noor (BCom’14) reflect on the legacy of an inspiring colleague and professor.

93 student teams tackle social inequality and protectionism at MIPC 2020

The fourth annual Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ International Portfolio Challenge invited 93 student teams from 18 countries to compete to solve a complex portfolio construction problem. This year’s case study challenged participants to invest a fictitious sovereign wealth fund in a way that addressed social inequalities and protectionism in the wake of Brexit.

Desautels students earn all three podium places at Global Goals Jam Case Competition

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ graduate student Michael Bourkas (MBA’22) has taken home first place in the Global Goals Jam Case Competition at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, with peers Conor Grieve (MBA’21) and Nandini Biswas Jain (MBA’22) following close behind in second and third places, respectively.

Two teams from the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Master of Management in Analytics (MMA) are heading to the semi-finals of the Microsoft Discover AI Challenge on May 27. Hosted by Microsoft, Agorize and Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾, the case competition aims to leverage AI and analytics to create smarter and more sustainable economies using Microsoft’s Cloud and AI tools.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ team scores second place at International Youth Leadership Finance Summit

A team of five Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ students secured second place at the International Youth Leadership Finance Summit, hosted by the Master of Finance program at the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance at Shanghai Jiao Tong University from January 11–14. The event brought together 27 teams from universities across the world, including Stanford University, Columbia University and the London School of Economics, to explore how sci-tech companies are empowered through innovation and finance.

Professor Richard Donovan honoured in MBA Japan case competition

In honour of the late Professor Richard Donovan, the Desautels MBA Japan program recently hosted the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ MBA Japan Case Competition. The internal event gives students a chance to put their knowledge to practice by bringing them together over 24 hours to solve a case competition.

Teams presented to a judging panel of Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ MBA Japan alumni before the winners—Hoson Kablawi, Naohisa Takahashi, and Hazuki Yamashita—were awarded the Richard Donovan Cup.

Can university pension plans help tackle climate change?

In November 2019, teams in the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ International Portfolio Challenge were asked to provide a solution for a fictional pension fund reassessing its investments in the interest of climate action.

Students forging the path to sustainability

At the recent Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ International Portfolio Challenge, students once again demonstrated that they are leading the march to sustainability. Asked to consider the options of a pension fund under pressure to divest from the fossil fuel industry, the winning team from HEC Montréal presented a solution that is both responsible and realistic.
