Student accidents or hospitalization

ODoS coordinates responses within the University and communicates with families. ODoS: 

  • Liaises with members of the student's faculty and/or department responsible for following up after an accident or hospitalization.
  • Liaises with Security Services and appropriate Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ partners and services.
  • Communicates with the student's friends and peers to offer support and assistance.

Confidentiality

The ODoS upholds Quebec privacy legislation, which does not permit any information about a student to be released to any third party without the student’s prior written consent. This includes any member of a student’s family. Some emergencies may give rise to exceptions under provincial law. In this case, an emergency is defined as a situation in which a student’s health or well-being is seriously at risk.


Student death

The Office of the Dean of Students (ODoS) is the contact point for forwarding condolences to and communicating with families. ODoS:

  • Liaises with members of the student's faculty and/or department responsible for following up after a student death.
  • Arranges with the Secretariat for the University flag to be flown at half mast.
  • Informs the Registrar, Student Accounts, as well as Alumni Relations of student’s name, ID number, and date of death.
  • Provides contact information for local resources if families are considering planning any services on or off campus.
