Field Crops and Horticulture

Overview

The Specialization in Field Crops and Horticulture provides students with knowledge and skills relating to the biology and physiology, breeding, propagation, and management of domesticated crops and vegetables. The ability to provide plant sources for food in growing urban settings and feed for livestock in rural settings reflects a growing challenge to Canadian and global economies. Graduates are prepared for employment in horticulture or in field crop development, production, and management, in government services, teaching and consulting, in addition to providing a solid basis for postgraduate studies.

This Specialization is taken under the Major in Sustainable Agricultural Systems with connections to Livestock and Global Food Security, and provides an opportunity to take dedicated agronomic content leading to eligibility requirements for the Ordre des agronomes du Québec (OAQ).
