Program helps future teachers to manage their stress and their emotions

What is the best way to prepare future teachers for the emotional challenges they will face as they pursue their careers?

That’s the question that led �鶹��ý��վ’s Faculty of Education to make well-being in education a strategic priority and create the Regulating Emotions and Stress for pre-Service Teachers Program (RESST), with the support of the Rossy Foundation.

Cyrille Mvomo achieved an outstanding double recognition at the IEEE-EMBS Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI) Conference held October 26-29 in Atlanta, GA, USA. BHI is one of the world’s leading venues in digital health research.

Best Paper Award (Third Place) — for his paper “Monitoring Parkinson’s Disease In-the-Wild”.

Siobhan Henderson successfully defended her PhD Oral Defence in Currie 304 on December 4th, 2025.

Education Researcher Receive John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) Funding

Thirty-two �鶹��ý��վ research projects have received new funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) for investments in research infrastructure to support their innovative projects, for a total federal investment of $9.7 million. These grants will be matched by the Quebec government, doubling their value.

At the afternoon Fall Convocation ceremony on October 14, �鶹��ý��վ awarded the President’s Prize for Excellence in Teaching to four outstanding educators, half of whom were Faculty of Education instructors.

TIE lab presents at SCAPPS 2022 in Montreal

Oct 13~15 2022, TIE lab participated in the SCAPPS (Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology) 2022 Conference in Montreal, Quebec. TIE lab students, Olivia, Gabby, and Nour each presented their research and had great discussions with professors and students from different universities and labs. Dr. Shane Sweet is one of the main organizers, as well as Tayah and George (Zhiyang) volunteered at this conference.

Sep 15~18 2022, TIE lab went to the 61st International Spinal Cord Society Annual Scientific Meeting in Vancouver, BC. TIE lab supervisor, Dr. Shane Sweet and lab member, Jacques Comeau led a discussion on peer support for individuals with spinal cord injury at the pre-conference. TIE lab students, Tayah and Nour delivered their poster presentations, as well as George and Olivia gave their oral presentations on their research projects.

September 6th and 7th, 2022, TIE lab graduate students, Olivia Pastore and Nour Saadawi, each completed their thesis proposals with their committee.

Olivia's Ph.D. thesis: Understanding and reducing compassion fatigue using the compassion fatigue resilience model and self-compassion in peer mentors of Canadian spinal cord injury community-based organizations.

Nour's Master thesis: Optimizing staff training to improve adapted physical activity service provision for two community organizations: Co-construction and implementation evaluation

March 25~26, 2022, TIE lab members, Olivia, Tayah, Meaghan, Nour, Lauren, and Georgia presented their research at the Eastern Canada Sport and Exercise Psychology Symposium (ECSEPS) 2022 conference in Ottawa. March 12, 2022, TIE lab PhD student Tayah Liska published the research on the Journal of Spinal Cord Medicine. The title of the publication is "Examining long-term motivational and behavioural outcomes of two physical activity interventions".

Dr. Shane Sweet and Jacques Comeau co-presenting at KPE grad seminar

November 18th, 2021, Dr. Shane Sweet and Mr. Jacques Comeau collaboratively presented at the graduate seminar of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. They shared their experience in doing community-based research on peer mentorship for people living with spinal cord injuries.

Jacques worked as a peer integration counselor for Moelle épinière et motricité Québec (a local community organization for people with spinal cord injury) in the past ten years. He has been actively involved in multiple research projects in collaboration with the TIE lab.

November 8, 2021, it's so exciting to announce that our lab recently published two papers on Spinal Cord. Both of them came from the study in which our research team collaborated with community partners to interview multiple individuals who have been involved in community-based spinal cord injury (SCI) peer mentorship programs. This study is under the larger project of developing an evaluation tool for SCI peer mentorship led by TIE lab director, Dr. Shane Sweet.

Congratulations to Emilie Michalovic on passing her PhD dissertation defense

November 3rd, 2021, TIE lab member Emilie Michalovic successfully completed her PhD dissertation defense. Emilie joined the TIE lab in 2015 and has been an excellent lab member over the past six years. She is Dr. Sweet's first student who completed her PhD degree. Emilie's research focuses on enhancing the social participation and well-being of people living with COPD.

Being the senior student of the lab, Emilie always takes on a leadership role. She loves helping her labmates, giving new ideas to the lab, and sharing experiences with people around her.
