Director of the Max Bell School of Public Policy, Jennifer Welsh, has been newly appointed as a Distinguished James �鶹��ý��վ Professor. This award is �鶹��ý��վ’s highest honor. (WASHINGTON – April 30, 2026) — As economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and shifting trade dynamics reshape North America, a new binational commission has been launched to explore the future of Canada–U.S. relations.

Co-chaired by former Canadian cabinet minister, Lisa Raitt, and former U.S. congresswoman, Jane Harman, the Commission for the Second Century of Canada-U.S. Relations will bring together senior leaders and policy experts from both countries to develop a new strategic agenda for long-term, bilateral cooperation.

Last week, nine members of the Geography Department (students and faculty) attended the 9th Conference on Spatial Knowledge and Information Canada (SKI2026) in Banff, Alberta. The conference brings together researchers of geographic information science (and systems), spatial data science, and related disciplines who live and work in Canada. The conference was a blast and everyone is looking forward to SKI 2028.
