Graduate Certificate in Cloud and Operational Technology (OT) Security

The Graduate Certificate in Cloud and Operational Technology (OT) Security is a 15-credit graduate-level program designed to equip students and working professionals with specialized training to strengthen their cloud and OT Security.

Course Plan

The program is designed to be followed on a part-time basis, taking two courses in Fall, two courses in Winter, and one course in Summer (finishing at the end of June). Students following this schedule can typically complete the program in 8 months, to a maximum of three years.

Each course is a standard 13-week in-person graduate course at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ with video/audio recording accessible at the discretion of the instructors. Students are expected to commit between 130 and 150 hours for a 3-credit course. The courses will include lectures, in-class activities, individual and group assessments, interactive lab activities, projects, and exams. The lectures will be scheduled in the early evening to accommodate students working full-time.

What is Cloud Security?

Cloud computing is a technology that allows users to access and store data, and run applications over the internet, rather than using physical hardware and servers on-premises. It offers scalable, on-demand computing resources and services. Yet, this setting introduces a new vector for potential cyber-attacks. Cloud security refers to the strategies, protocols, and technologies designed to protect data, applications, and the associated infrastructure of cloud computing. It encompasses a broad range of measures to ensure data privacy, compliance with regulations, and secure access to cloud-based resources. In cloud environments, where data and applications are hosted remotely over the internet, security becomes paramount to protect against data breaches, unauthorized access, and other cyber threats. Cloud security is important for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of information across various cloud service models such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).

What is Operation Technology (OT) Security?

Operational Technology (OT) refers to the hardware and software systems designed to monitor and control physical devices, processes, and events in industrial settings, such as manufacturing plants, power plants, and transportation systems. OT security refers to the practices and technologies used to protect systems that control and monitor physical industrial processes, such as those in manufacturing, energy, transportation, and utilities. It focuses on safeguarding machinery, control systems, and the networks connecting them from cyber threats that could disrupt critical industrial operations. Unlike traditional IT security, which primarily secures data and information processes, OT security emphasizes the safety, reliability, and continuity of industrial operational environments, protecting them from attacks that could lead to hazardous situations, production downtime, or even physical damage.

The Graduate Certificate in Cloud and OT Security covers a spectrum of advanced cybersecurity topics, from cloud to operating technology security, from cyber incident response to digital forensics, from secure application development to threat intelligence analysis. Using real-world business cases and simulations, graduates will develop skills in acquiring and analyzing cybersecurity-related information at the systems, network, and software levels.
