Ecologists have attempted to unravel these potential factors\, but the results are la rgely contradictory or even inconclusive to date. That’s because it is usu ally too difficult to gather enough data on animal whereabouts over large periods of time – except when using toads!\n\nNathalie Jreidini is a PhD s tudent in the Green lab at the Redpath Museum. In this talk\, she will go over three main topics: (1) What collecting field data on toad displacemen ts looks like\, (2) How toad movements can be used to revisit animal dispe rsal theories\, and (3) Why changes in animal habitats are studied in rela tion to human well-being\, culture and health.\n\n\nAbout STARS\n\nSTARS ( Scientists Talk About Research for Staff) is a series of special lunch-hou r talks and visits to science related sites and institutes specifically fo r Faculty of Science support staff.\n\nBicentennial STARS for 2021\n\nTo h onour Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾'s Bicentennial year\, STARS is celebrating young Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ scien tists with seven monthly lunch-hour presentations that will take you behin d the scenes to never before seen labs and experimental research areas whe re graduate students will share all kinds of insights into their work and research efforts.\n\nThe Bicentennial STARS series will be co-hosted by st udent ambassadors\, Yael and Micaela Lewis\, twin sisters in their fifth y ear of a BSc in Biology\, both minoring in Natural History. Yael and Micae la have been very involved in the Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Debating Union\, and are excited to bring together their passions for science and communication as student ambassadors.\n\nRegister for this STARS event See more Faculty of Science staff events\n DTSTART:20210428T160000Z DTEND:20210428T170000Z SUMMARY:Bicentennial STARS: Using small animals to answer a large-scale que stion: Why do animals leave their habitats?
