Searching for the Fountain of Youth

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 19:00
Leacock Building Room 132 (attached to the 鶹ýվ Arts Building) - 855 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H3A 2T7, 855 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montreal, QC, H3A 2T7, CA

Aging is not a pleasant prospect. If there is something to be said on its behalf, it is that the process of growing old offers ample opportunity for potentially useful scientific research. While the “Fountain of Youth” is mythical, science has revealed that there are ways to reduce the risk of a premature demise. Unfortunately, the concept of aging also offers a chance for promoting a variety of unsubstantiated anti-aging schemes designed for the public to dip into the proverbial “fountain of youth”. There are books and magazines devoted to longevity, and influencers that dedicate the majority of their content to the subject, hyping products guaranteed to improve health and increase life expectancy. Some of the information is valuable, but there are also many falsehoods cleverly couched in pseudo-scientific lingo and numerous exaggerated claims that are not supported by the studies on which they are supposedly based.

So what, and who, should we believe?Join us on May 13th, as Dr. Joe takes a look at the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to aging, and one's never-ending quest for the Fountain of Youth.
