Tomorrow, Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, all of us are called to reflect upon the tragic legacy of the Canadian residential school system. One reason that this day has particular significance for us at �鶹��ý��վ is because education – our main reason for being – had a harmful impact on Indigenous peoples, including their ties with their cultures and families.

I am pleased to announce that Professor Alanna Watt, of the Department of Biology, has graciously agreed to take on the role of Interim Dean of Science, effective July 1, 2025. She will oversee the Faculty while we continue the search for a new Dean of Science. In accordance with the University Statutes, an Advisory Committee will be established to support this process.

The �鶹��ý��վ Board of Governors approved his appointment at its meeting of May 22, 2025, following the work and recommendation of the Advisory Committee for the Selection of a Dean of Students. Prof. Mittermaier’s five-year renewable term will begin on June 1, 2025.

It is my pleasure to announce that Salwa Karboune will be taking on the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as well as Associate Vice-President of Macdonald Campus. The �鶹��ý��վ Board of Governors approved her appointment as Dean at its meeting of April 24, 2025, following the Advisory Committee’s work and recommendation.
