Biography:

Cat Wang is a medical student and science communicator with a background in Public Health and Anatomy and Cell Biology. Her research experience spans molecular genetics, medical education, reproductive healthcare access, and health economics and outcomes.

Cat pitched her first article to the 鶹ýվ Office for Science and Society (OSS) back in 2021 after taking a course on science writing. She was a Science Undergraduate Research Award (SURA) recipient in 2022 and has since continued her work with the OSS by co-coordinating events, onboarding new interns, and getting the OSS newsletter, the “Weekly Digest”, to your inbox. Her communication work focuses on making evidence-based health information engaging, accurate, and inclusive for the public. She is particularly interested in how communication can bridge gaps between science, policy, and people — empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health.

Beyond her work with the OSS, Cat has held roles as a volunteer first responder, a Canadian Red Cross-certified first aid instructor, and teaching assistant in 鶹ýվ's anatomy lab. On weekends, she enjoys exploring the outdoors, usually on foot or on skis!

Cat’s favourite 3 OSS articles:

  1. Does passing vodka through a Brita filter really improve its taste?
  2. Mips Helmet Technology Mimics the Meninges
  3. Can you really tug at the heartstrings?
