The COVID-19 pandemic has tested our psychological limits. Some have been more affected than others by the stress of potential illness and the confusion of constantly changing health information and new restrictions. A new study finds the pandemic may have also impaired people’s cognitive abilities and altered risk perception, at a time when making the right health choices is critically important.

C. L. de Carvalho-Heineken Prize recognizes his seminal work in the cognition of music

Cognitive neuroscientist Robert Zatorre has been awarded the C.L. de Carvalho-Heineken Prize in Cognitive Sciences.

The Heineken Prize–given every two years to five different researchers–is considered the most prestigious international science prize in The Netherlands and includes a monetary reward of US$200,000. Previous winners include Nancy Kanwisher of MIT, and Stanislas Dehaene of the Collège de France.

Scientist Brenda Milner, born in 1918, pioneered memory research

Pioneering neuropsychologist Brenda Milner turns 100 today. Milner made groundbreaking discoveries in the field of human memory.

Born on July 15, 1918 in Manchester, UK, Milner came to Canada in 1944 and finished a PhD at �鶹��ý��վ under psychologist Donald Hebb in 1952, moving on to a tenured position studying epilepsy patients at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (The Neuro).
