With a total of seven prizes at the SOCAN Foundations Awards to Young Composers, the Schulich School of Music Composition Area has performed remarkably. 聽Four out five of the 2014 SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers have been awarded to current or former Schulich Students, and prize winners in the Sir Ernest MacMillan awards Category consist exclusively of former Schulich Students. A new approach to music theory education. 聽Three videos illustrate the master apprentice method of teaching the art of counterpoint with all transpositions and shortenings of cadential passages. 聽The videos, filmed at the Schulich School of Music, feature a spectacular four octave Italian 聽harpsichord that is part of the Kenneth Gilbert Harpsichord Collection.
OBOE SECRETS, a new book release by Associate Professor Jacqueline Leclair, was favourably reviewed in the International Double Reed Journal.
In Oboe Secrets: 75 Performance Strategies for the Advanced Oboist and English Horn Player, Jacqueline Leclair tackles the oboe鈥檚 reputation as an especially difficult instrument and illustrates how oboists and English horn players can overcome common challenges.
Vanessa Blais-Tremblay, PhD student in Musicology and Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies has won the SOCAN 2014 Writings on Canadian Music.

This year Schulich Grads Sweep Jazz at the Junos
Graduates of the Schulich School of Music聽posted a clean sweep of the jazz category at Saturday鈥檚 Juno Awards in Winnipeg.
Program alumni Christine Jensen, Mike Downes and Mike Rud took home the hardware for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year,Traditional Jazz Album of the Year and Vocal Jazz Album of the Year respectively.

Victor Fournelle-Blain winner of the Golden Violin Competition
Following an exciting public recital competition held on Saturday, March 15th in Tanna Schulich Hall, and approximately 15 minutes of deliberation, Jury chair 聽Prof. Douglas McNabney announced Victor Fournelle-Blain 聽as winner of the Golden Violin Competition.
Professor Andrew Dunn, Brass Area Chair, has been elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM)
This honour is conferred on past students of the Academy who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and have made a significant contribution to it in their particular field.
