MAW is a pro active way to recognize the contributions of Muslims\, diminish stereotype s\, build bridges\, and exercise non-dualistic critical thinking. It's a t ime for interfaith dialogue and cultural exchange\, including through stor ies\, food\, and art.\n\nMAW started in response to tragic events. On Janu ary 29\, 2017\, 46 people were attacked\, and 6 killed\, in the Great Mosq ue of Quebec after Isha (evening) prayer. In 2021\, the Canadian governmen t designated January 29 as a National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec Cit y Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia. In Quebec\, MAW allows us to focus on surmounting Islamophobia for a whole week.\n\nOn campus\, MAW will be marked with a commemorative lecture on January 29 at 4:30-6:00pm by Dr. Salam El-Majzoub\, who will examine the mental health impacts of Is lamophobia\, particularly on Muslim youth. You're also invited to join MOR SL for a field trip to the CIIC Mosque this Sunday\, and there are plenty of other interesting events organized by SSM/MAW\, and there are many othe r interesting events that are open to the public below:\n\nJan 24-Jan 25\, 10:00 am-8:00 pm: Building Bridges with Communities As part of the Ramada n Community Expo\, Muslim Awareness Week will host an official booth to en gage directly with the public and create open\, accessible spaces for dial ogue.\n\nJan 25\, 2:45-5:00 PM: My Neighbour's Faith: Canadian Institute f or Islamic Civilization Join MORSL for a trip to a mosque and community ce ntre\, the Canadian Institute for Islamic Civilization (CIIC). The experie nce will start with an introduction to Islam and Muslims in Canada. We’ll then learn about how prayer works in Islam and witness community prayer.  We’ll also hold a Q&A with a community leader. Please register on myInvolv ement if you'd like to attend.\n\nJan 25-Jan 31\, 2026: Blood Drive As par t of Muslim Awareness Week 2026\, SSM\, in partnership with Héma‑Québec\, is organizing a blood donation mobilization from January 25 to 31 at parti cipating centers in Laval\, Kirkland\, and Globule Versailles. This initia tive carries a powerful message: where hatred caused the blood of innocent people to be shed\, we choose to give blood to save lives. Through this c oncrete action\, SSM invites the public to transform remembrance into acti on and to take part in a gesture of fraternity\, solidarity\, and commitme nt to life.\n\nJan 26\, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm: Abwab — Poetry\, Identity and Dia logue As part of Muslim Awareness Week 2026\, SSM is proud to present the launch of the poetry collection Abwab by Ehab Lotayef\, poet\, artist\, an d co‑founder of SSM. This artistic evening invites the public to discover a poetic work rooted in sensitivity\, memory\, and reflection. Through rea dings and exchange\, the event highlights poetry as a space for expression \, dialogue\, and connection.\n\nJan 27\, 5:00 pm-7:00 pm: Round Table – I mmediate Impacts of Bill 94 As part of Muslim Awareness Week 2026\, this r oundtable offers a space for dialogue and analysis on the immediate impact s of Bill 94.\n\nJan 28-Jan 30: Art Exhibition – Faces of Reconnection As part of Muslim Awareness Week 2026\, the exhibition Faces of Connection of fers an artistic space dedicated to dialogue\, diversity\, and coexistence . Through the works presented\, the exhibition highlights connection throu gh art and celebrates each year the richness and diversity of artists from Muslim backgrounds. Painting\, visual art\, and contemporary expressions become tools for encounter\, reflection\, and bridge‑building between comm unities. Open to all\, the fair will host nearly a dozen boot hs featuring a wide range of initiatives: community organizations\, artist s\, artisans\, vendors\, cultural products\, food\, jewelry\, clothing\, h enna art\, children’s face painting\, and more.\n\nFeb 1\, 11:00 am-12:00 pm: United in Faith\, United in Humanity As part of Muslim Awareness Week\ , SSM will take part in the February 1st service at St. James United Churc h\, in a spirit of respect\, dialogue\, and interfaith connection.
