Introduced and moderated by Prof. Pedro Monaville (His tory and Classical Studies)\, the conversation will center on Baloji and M onaville's ongoing collaboration on the history of the Congo in the world in the 20th Century.\n\nThe event will take place from 4:00 to 5:30pm in L eacock 738.\n\nArtist's short bio: \n Sammy Baloji is a visual artist whose work explores questions related to historical memory in the Democratic Re public of Congo\, with a strong focus on the history and legacy of colonia l extractivism in Katanga. Baloji works across photography\, film\, sculpt ure\, and installation. A Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres\, he has recei ved numerous fellowships\, awards and distinctions\, notably at the Africa n Photography Encounters of Bamako and the Dakar Biennale\, and was a laur eate of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. In 2019-2020\, he wa s a resident of the French Academy of Rome – Villa Medici. His most recent personal exhibitions include Echoes of History\, Shadows of Progress at t he EMST in Athens (2025)\, his solo exhibition at Goldsmiths CCA (2024)\, K(C)ongo\, Fragments of Interlaced Dialogues\, Palazzo Pitti\, Florence (2 022) and Beaux-Arts de Paris (2021).
