Biography: 

Dr. Beth-Ann Cummings was appointed Vice-Dean, Education & Community Engagement in December 2024. She completed her medical degree (2003) and her residency training in General Internal Medicine (2008) at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. She obtained an International MSc in Health Professions Education (2011) from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Dr. Cummings is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine and an Associate Member of the Institute of Health Sciences Education (IHSE). She previously served as Associate Dean, Undergraduate Medical Education (2015-2019) and Assistant Dean, Health Professions Education (2021-2023) in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS).

Dr. Cummings’ past research activities in health sciences education have spanned longitudinal integrated clerkships and validity and authenticity in assessment. Her ongoing scholarship explores assessment, professionalism, and inclusion; she is a co-investigator working with FRQSC- and SSHRC-funded research teams and is a member of the Equity in Health Systems (EqHS) Lab. In 2024 she received the IHSE Research and Scholarship Catalyst Award, a peer-nominated award recognizing her longstanding commitment to supporting and facilitating research and scholarship in health sciences education.

As Vice-Dean, Education & Community Engagement in the FMHS, Dr. Cummings leads a network of teams and provides strategic guidance in support of the overarching educational and community engagement missions of the FMHS; this includes community engagement, Indigenous priorities, faculty enrichment and development, interprofessional education, innovative modalities of teaching and learning, and supporting education across the six Schools in the FMHS through strong working relationships with the Associate Deans and other education and community engagement leaders. She serves as a liaison between the FMHS and central university offices including the Office of the Associate Provost (Teaching and Academic Planning) and the Equity Office.
