High Commissioner of Ghana to Canada Visits Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾

In early July, Â鶹´«Ã½Íøվ’s Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), Professor Christopher Manfredi, Mr. Brian Bauer (Director, Global Engagement), Dr. Nii Addy (Associate Director, Africa Outreach)/Senior Outreach Advisor), Dr. Anja Geitmann (Dean, Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences), Dr. Carola Weil (Dean, School of Continuing Studies) and several other Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ colleagues welcomed guests from the High Commission of Ghana in Ottawa. With the objective of building and strengthening ties between Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and the Republic of Ghana. His Excellency Anselm Sowah, High Commissioner of Ghana to Canada, and two Ghanaian High Commission representatives, Mr. Mawutor Alifo (Minister, Trade and Investment) and Mr. Benyamin Y. Tanko (Minister-Counsellor, Political & Economic), were hosted for an afternoon programme at the university.

The visit provided an opportunity to discuss Â鶹´«Ã½Íøվ’s multi-sectoral collaborations with the Republic of Ghana and Ghanaian stakeholders, which includes the multi-year Queen Elizabeth Scholar’s program, LINkIN-Ghana, which aims to strengthen the capacity of Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and the University of Ghana researchers who work with farmers, entrepreneurs, community leasers, and local institutions to develop solutions to agriculture and food and nutrition security. Discussions were also held to strengthen collaborations between Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ and Ghanaian educational institutions, potentially building on the number of Memorada of Understanding signed with Ghanaian institutions in the near future.

During their time at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾, the High Commissioner and Ghanaian colleagues also had the opportunity to take a campus tour and meet with Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ students from West Africa.
