 NOPSIS:\nThis lecture will discuss the advantages of the open access publi
 shing model\, review recent developments in OA\, and describe the limitati

 s for open access publishing\n\nBIO:\nProf Madhukar Pai\, MD\, PhD is a Ca
 nada Research Chair in Translational Epidemiology & Global Health at McGil
 l University\, Montreal. He is the Director of Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ Global Health Progra
 ms\, and Associate Director of the Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾ International TB Centre. Madhu s
 erves as a Consultant to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also serv
 es on the STAG-TB committee of WHO\, Geneva\; Scientific Advisory Committe
 e of FIND\, Geneva\; and Access Advisory Committee of TB Alliance\, New Yo
 rk. He is on the editorial boards of Lancet Infectious Diseases\, PLoS Med
 icine\, PLoS ONE\, Scientific Reports\, International Journal of TB and Lu
 ng Disease\, among others. Madhu’s research is mainly focused on improving
  the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis\, especially in high-burden c
 ountries like India and South Africa. His research is supported by grant f
 unding from the Gates Foundation\, Grand Challenges Canada\, and Canadian 
 Institutes of Health Research. He is recipient of the Union Scientific Pri
 ze\, Chanchlani Global Health Research Award\, and Haile T. Debas Prize. H
 e is a member of the Royal Society of Canada.\n \n \n
