Understanding Black Girls’ Experiences in Schools and Community Education

Matthew Slopecki, KPE, Receives Mitacs Accelerate Doctoral Fellowship for Collaborative Project with Swimming Canada

Congratulations to Matthew Slopecki Ph.D. (c) (Biomechanics of Occupation and Sport Lab) who has been awarded a 3-year Mitacs Accelerate Doctoral Fellowship. He will be working with Swimming Canada to develop a fatigue/performance monitoring tool with the elite para-swimming team.

Through this collaboration greater knowledge will be gained for an under-researched population while developing a tool that will help to improve athletic performance.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has been a source of deep preoccupation to many of us. As Principal of our university, I am reminded of the need for – and the potential fragility of – stability and peace in order to pursue higher learning and the advancement of knowledge.

In celebration of three important milestones, the 85th birthday of a true 鶹ýվ champion, the beginning of the University’s third century, and the upcoming 65th anniversary of his class, a brand new named award is being established in 鶹ýվ's Faculty of Education to celebrate Thomas B. Thompson (BSc(PE) ’58, Med ’78), a Physical Education alumnus with a proven track record of community service.
