Biography:
  • Professor, Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾, Department of Medicine, Associate member of Biomedical Engineering and Physiology
  • Scientist, Meakins-Christie Laboratories

Dr. Lauzon earned her BSc in Physics and Physiology before completing her PhD in Physiology at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾. After finishing postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, San Diego and the University of Vermont, Burlington, Dr. Lauzon joined the faculty at Â鶹´«Ã½ÍøÕ¾.

The main interest of Dr. Lauzon’s laboratory is to understand the biophysical properties of airway smooth muscle and their alterations by inflammatory cells and mediators in asthma. Thus, Dr. Lauzon established a research program to investigate the structure and function of asthmatic airway smooth muscle. Dr. Lauzon has set up a suite of assays to measure muscle mechanics from the whole muscle strip to the single myosin molecule, including in vitro motility and laser trap assays. Dr. Lauzon works with human healthy-control and asthmatic tissues obtained from procurement agencies as well as with human biopsies. Her research has been extensively supported by CIHR, NSERC, and NIH.

Although the main focus of Dr. Lauzon’s work is on the pathogenesis of asthma, her studies are also of direct relevance to other disorders associated with bronchial hyperresponsiveness such as chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and cystic fibrosis, as well as other vascular and intestinal pathologies related to smooth muscle dysfunction.
