He was Nepal's Minister for Water Resources in 2002/2003\nand is currently vice-chair of the technical committee of U N's\nThird World Water Assessment. He was one of the initiators of\nDuryog Nivaran\, a South Asian initiative promoting an alternative\nperspective on disaster mitigation. Mr Dyawali is also founding\nchair of Swabalamban\ , a poverty alleviation program of 'sustainable\ndevelopment of the poor b y the poor' in Nepal. Mr. Gyawali has been\na visiting scholar at the Inte rnational Environment Academy in\nGeneva\, the London School of Economics and was a member of the\nInternational Advisory Board of Battelle Pacific Northwest National\nLab (USA)\, known for its state-of-the-art study on hu man choice and\nclimate change as seen by the social sciences.
