Sociology Ph.D. student Helena Villa Cardona receives MISC award

Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Sociology, , was awarded the Charles R. Bronfman and Alex K. Paterson Top Up Award by the 鶹ýվ Institute for the Study of Canada. Established in honour of Charles R. Bronfman and Alex K. Paterson, co-chairs of the Institute’s Board of Trustees from 1994 to 2008, the award recognizes doctoral students whose research examines aspects of Canada. Helena’s doctoral research explores homeschooling, parental rights activism, and gender backlash in Canada, with particular attention to how anti-“gender ideology” movements shape parenting norms, family life, and education policy through censorship campaigns and opposition to feminism and LGBTQ+ inclusion in schools.
