Professor Mathes has been awared听the 2025 Keats-Shelley Association Essay Prize for her essay听鈥淎postrophe鈥檚 Occasions: Two Postures of Abolitionist Address.鈥�
The committee writes:
"Carmen Faye Mathes鈥檚 rich and far-reaching essay, 鈥淎postrophe鈥檚 Occasions,鈥� is many things at once: an intensive study of a cluster of Mary Robinson poems; a powerful reconsideration of that Romanticist fetish-object, apostrophe; and a searching exploration of the political ambivalence of abolitionist verse."
